The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Fleet Maintenance Building was selected for a 12,000 s.f. unplanted Aqualok roof. Even unplanted, these panels capture 3" of stormwater runoff per ASTM E-2398 testing, and the white fabric coating enabled the panels to function as both a Cool White Roof as well as a type of Blue Roof. By combining the benefits of White, Green and Blue roofing systems, Aqualok can provide owners with a unique Turquoise Roof.
AU researchers have compared and contrasted the performance of the unplanted Aqualok installation at Fleet Maintenance with the adjacent planted roof panels as well as the earlier installations at Engine Company 12.
